What is Nautis?

Nautis is a digital sailing logbook. It records a voyage in the shape of the RYA Personal Logbook (G73): the position, the conditions, the passage detail, and the note you write at the time, kept together in one entry. It runs on iOS and Android, works offline, tracks the route by GPS, and can share a trip live with anyone ashore.

The name is Latin. Nautis, for the sailors.

The RYA G73 logbook, in plain terms

The RYA Personal Logbook (G73) is the Royal Yachting Association's logbook for recording sea time. Sailors keep one to hold what a passage is measured by: miles run, days aboard, hours at night, the ports, the conditions, the role on board. It is the record behind RYA qualifications like Day Skipper and Yachtmaster.

Most apps draw the track and stop there. Nautis records each voyage in that same structure, so the log you keep for the story holds the detail a logbook is meant to.

What Nautis records

  • The log. Speed, course and barometric pressure captured on their own, alongside what you add: conditions, the sail plan, the sea state, notes, photos.
  • The logbook. Your trips live here. Each one is made from the entries you log as you go, and every entry holds the conditions, your notes and your photos. The whole voyage stays in one record.
  • Friends. Logs travel between sailors. Add a friend and you follow their voyages, their entries, their miles. Shared only between people who choose to.
  • The Radar. The whole fleet on one map. Live active trips, and the last-known position for everyone else. Tap a sailor to see their route and logs.
  • On Watch. Tap once before you cast off and the trip becomes a link. Anyone ashore opens it in a browser and watches the route, the conditions and the photos as they happen. No app, no account.

Who it's for

Anyone who values recording logs while on the water, and wants to share them with other sailors, family or friends, live through On Watch or after the trip is done.

How Nautis is different

Most sailing apps record where you went. Nautis records what it was like. The route is the easy part. Every GPS app draws the line. Nautis keeps the conditions, the sea state, the pressure and the words you wrote at the time as structured fields in the entry, not a caption under a map. It is built around the logs you take.
